Other information

We know that Patrick was a soldier in Tasmania in 1811 and 1814 as two children were born there, Ann 1811 (Baptism) and Mary 1814 (Baptism) also John (Baptism) 1814 (sic) Sydney New South Wales. He might have been a guard for the convicts at that time. Have not found anything about his service as yet. (KB)

Patrick doesn't appear with his family in the 1841 or 1851 census... maybe he's away with the army? Aunty Nell's note book (held by KVG) suggests that he was involved in the Crimea War (1853-1856) but at 60+ he would probably have been too old by then. The Penisular Wars (1808 - 1814) or Waterloo (1815) may be more likely. As the family were living in Pimlico, it's possible that Patrick was stationed at barracks nearby (Chelsea?). (ES)
