Served in the Royal Navy during WW1 (stoker 1st Class K44177). Received the Campaign and Victory medals.
George was a good darts player, and won medals in the Sittingbourne & Milton District Darts League for 1922/23, 1924/25, 1936/37 and 1938/39. He also won a medal as part of the Kent County Team in "The People" championships 1938/39
Served as a Special Constable during WW2, being excused from active service due to scarring from abdominal operations
